The garden I have been working on is now in its second year. Since most of last year was spent building a fence and setting things up, this is the first year it has produced much. Last year I planted a couple apple trees, a plum tree, two hazel shrubs, and two mulberry trees. The strawberries I planted last year came back strong, along with an assortment of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries.
This year I planted a second plum tree to pollinate the first one, a peach tree, a fig tree, and five chestnut trees. I am in zone 6b, so I am not sure how well the fig tree will do, but I wanted to give it a try. In the vegetable garden, I’ve planted radishes, buttercrunch lettuce, snap peas, potatoes, carrots, beans, tomatoes, peppers, sugar pumpkins, yellow squash, zucchini, and watermelon. I also planted cauliflower, two types of cabbage, and brussel sprouts as well, but as I took no preventative measures whatsoever, those all fell victim to critters.
I’ve had good luck with the lettuce, peas, potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, and peppers. I am including some pictures below. The squash, pumpkins, and watermelon aren’t ready yet, but they seem to be coming along nicely. I’ve never done a fall garden before, but I’m hoping to do a second round of some more cold-hardy veggies such as peas and radishes.
